Talking Points | Hey, What's Your Shirt Mean?

Tetelestai. I can already guess that this shirt will spark lots of questions! On the cross, Jesus's last words were "it is finished." In the original language of the Bible, "it is finished" translates into the word "tetelestai"

God's purpose for sending Jesus here on earth was to earn salvation for the world. At this point, Jesus was clearly communicating that the work He was sent here for had been finished. Nothing else, salvation was completed. In Jesus's day, when a person's financial debts were paid, they literally received the stamp "tetelestai" on their receipt to note that it had been paid in full. Love came down -- God send Jesus here to die in the cross to pay our debt, the debt of sin, in full

There's so much power conveyed by the word "tetelestai." In talking, use this as a reminder of God's love for us, enough to send Jesus (His only son) to walk the earth and die on the cross, so that He may "finish" His work for us. So that we can receive the grace of salvation, our debt of sin is paid in full. Oh, how He must love us!
